    The Scrabble Tile Mosaic Table

It's done! I finally got my tiles I needed from Hasbro (ordering from them was just as easy and cheap as buying it from someone on eBay). I glued them down and finished my Scrabble Tile Mosaic Coffee Table.

It matches my pillows, too (made by Lani).

The tedious part was making sure I had a nice, random assortment of tiles. Not all the same letter, some dark, some light. My obsessive quest for each carefully-selected line of too-random-to-actually-be-random letters yielded some pleasant results:

    • It looks truly random. I had 5 brand new packs of tiles, but I managed to keep a good mix of new and old. There's at least one darker piece on each line, usually about 2 or 3.
    • Aside from a couple letters, the first letter of each line is different
    • 99% of the letters do not touch the same letter it is.
    • There are only a few small words that incidentally made their way on to the board...that one was hard to avoid.

    UPDATE:

I'm going to start making some more tables as well as other items to sell, so let me know if you'd be interested. Also, I'm willing to talk about custom designs as well. If you have something in particular you wanted, it may cost a little more, but I'd be more than happy to accomodate any special requests.

This is a very, very cool table. So how much does one of these cost someone like me?

I got the idea of the table from some show on HGTV or something. Seriously, I don't watch them all the time, so I forget which one it was. They put a cushion on a coffee table to give the owners somewhere to put their feet, while still having room for stuff. That one was in the middle of the table, though.

The Scrabble part comes from when my friends and I were discussing repainting and changing some things around in the living room. For some reason, there was a bunch of letter tiles on my counter, and the idea was brought up to make a mosaic out of Scrabble tiles. Plus I love Scrabble. So I just kind of put the two ideas together, sketched it out, took some measurements and built the table.

Credit goes to Lani for making the cushions, and the awesome pillows that go so well with it.

That table is  incredible, I LOVE IT! You did a great job on it, you should make some more and sell it, I'd buy it.  But only if the pillows came with it, too. :o)

The last time I checked, my dad had a vasectomy shortly after my birth, so I don't think you could be my brother...but stranger things have been known to happen.

Love the matching pillows by the way, tres chic.  The table is to die for.  My sister would be drooling all over it, she is a scrabble-phile (is that a word?)

Are you ready for Aussie land yet?

Man, wish I'd have known. I'm sure Mom would have parted with her fifty year old tiles if you could have replaced them!
